The client

Carters Steam Fair is a traditional English funfair with rides dating from the 1890s to the 1960s. They are a unique piece of living history.

One of the features which makes Carters Steam Fair unique is the decoration of its engines, rides and transport. Joby Carter is a leading expert on the traditional craft of signwriting and fairground art and hosts training courses online and at the Carters Yard throughout the year.

Kind words

“We needed a brand new website that not only looked good but could also handle a fairly complicated customer journey and ecommerce set up.

Right from the start Kabo were fantastic – they asked all the right questions about our customer and what the website needed to do, and they kept a focus on that throughout the project, helping us refine our ideas into a well laid out, conversion friendly website.

What has been truly impressive though is the focus and attention on every single detail from hosting and technical things in the background to design and customer journey– you definitely feel like you are in safe hands working with Kabo. Absolutely recommend them for a website project.”

The solution

The Carters team are one of our longest and dearest customers, having worked with us since our first year in business.

From the launch of their first WordPress website, to implementing ecommerce, navigating the technical challenges of an events business during covid, through to today we’ve loved working with their wonderful team and visually stunning content.

We’re super proud to see them thriving the other side of the covid challenge, with their online and in-person courses, merchandise and token sales all proving to be long term successes.

New website

Back in 2018 we proudly worked with their team to build a shiny new WordPress website to feature their event locations, learning materials, new blog and integrate it all with their social channels and Google Analytics to help them measure and attribute their ad spend.

Ecommerce

The following year we replaced their third party ticketing solution with WooCommerce. This change gave them much more control over how they sold tokens to the fair, with a completely custom ticketing solution built to support their in-person sales at the fair.

The new ecommerce solution allowed them to add merchandise and artwork to the website for their extensive fan base to purchase.

Courses

Carters Steam Fair had always sold out incredibly popular in-person courses on the traditional art of signwriting. In 2020 this quickly pivoted to online courses over Zoom.

Working quickly to support the business, we helped to implement ticket sales through the website which integrated with Zoom to hold the events. Like many of our clients during the early days of covid they innovated with incredible speed, and we sped along with them to implement the technical solutions they needed.
